Breck Epic-Wrap Up!
July 12th, 2009 | Posted by Bart | Topic: News

The inaugural Breck Epic was a blast. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Sick trails and unexpected challenges like hiking through Wheeler Pass will provide some great memories.
Hats off Brandon Cross for his help in making it a fun and exciting week and keeping our race together. He could not have done a better job and even picked up a few wrenching tricks from the Garmin Pro Road Team mechanic.
Maybe next time I will support Brandon while he races for the week, that’s true team spirit!
The Cannondale Scalpel was flawless, not an easy task in a massive week of rocky mountain racing.
We ran out of tires but where lucky the local shop carries Kenda, picked up some at full retail but it was well worth it! For a fresh set of Small Block 2.1’s I would have paid $100 for each. They where the ticket and had me hooked up on the loose dry terrain of the Epic.

Top 10 highlights of the week:
10. Seeing Brandon’s face when I flatted on stage 1 and yelled tube in the feed zone!
9. Seeing my face when I realized the stressful event was caught on camera!
8. Riding sick abandoned Gold mine flumes and pilings. Someone did a lot of hand shoveling!
7. Seeing bear tracks the size of a pie plate in the snow on French Pass at 12,000ft
6. Going anaerobic while Walking at 12,400 feet in the the amazing tundra of Wheeler Pass.
5. The enjoyment of seeing Tommi Mc Miller making me look like SOFT for saying the course was hard. He rode a FIXED gear for the whole week!!!
4. Riding with some of my child hood hero’s this week, Dave Weins and Travis Brown.
3. Finding MonaVie at the bottom of my bag after thinking I was out! WHOO HOO!!!!!
2. Not crashing when my arms went numb on the Monster descent off the top of the world toward Copper Mtn. (back side of Wheeler Pass)
1. Waking up at 6 am the day after the 7th stage ready to go, ( MonaVie works) and then realizing I was done!
Thanks again to Matt, Bart and the rest of the team for the support and hard behind the scenes work that it takes to pull off a race win. And of course, to all of our great sponsors who provide us the finest lightest fastest and best engineered products on the planet!!
