Cape Epic Stage 1

Ben and Jacques had a great day and made up some time from after prologue mishap. They finished 10th and are in 15th overall. Ben said, “It was definitely tough. It was bumpy and hot. The hardest part was after I lost my water bottle and I bonked a little. I am so happy we got a good finish.”

Tinker and Johnny ran into a little pedal trouble on stage 1 but managed to zip tie things together and finish a strong 22nd. The new DCM Chrome/ Monavie-Cannondale kits made it for stage 1 so both teams are now outfitted in a cool red and black. Is that Pulse Red?

Who is DCM Chrome?  Well DCM Chrome is the premier South African Mountain Bike team that also happens to focus on “Epic” races.  Like Monavie-Cannondale they have a large 10 rider squad and look to support South Africa’s rising young talent. Both squads recognize Cannondale as the cutting edge of mountain bike equipment and enjoy a family type team camaraderie. A DCM/Monavie  alignment was a no brainer!

The team’s owner, mining executive Ian van der Walt, CEO of DCM Chrome has a passion for bike racing which shows in the professionalism of his program. When Ben and Tinker where invited to team up with Jacques and Johnny for Cape Epic, Ian had new DCM Chrome/Monavie kits made specefically for the event showcasing the DCM/Monavie partnership.

In the coming season look for the DCM Chrome crew to be hanging out at the Monavie-Cannondale compound and don’t be suprised if the youngsters from SA turn some heads on the trail.
